Christmas in Argentina

Christmas in Argentina

During Christmas the weather is warm in Argentina. But that in no way lessens the fun of the season. Preparations for Christmas Day begin much earlier than in many other parts of the world. Every house is decorated beautifully with lights and flowers. Living rooms of individual homes are adorned with wreaths of green, gold, red and white flowers. Red and white garlands are hung with an aesthetic touch on the doors of houses. Artificial or live trees are used to create the Christmas tree and embellished with laces, balls, Santa Clause figures, candles, colored lights, ornaments, small gifts and even “Papai Noels”. The Nativity scene or “pesebre” is an important part of the Argentine Christmas decorations. Many set up a creche in their homes during the season, setting up Christ’s manger with great care. The “pesebre” is placed close to the Christmas tree. A wonderful custom practiced be many people here is applying cotton balls on the branches of the Christmas tree to simulate snow throughout the nativity.

On Christmas day, everybody is greeted ‘Feliz Navidad’, meaning ‘Merry Christmas’ in Argentina.
About 92% of the Argentine population comprises of Roman Catholics and hence, religious services take up much of the day here.

Christmas dinner is served here on the night of 24th December. The traditional Argentine Christmas dinner
may be served in a garden area and consists of delicious dishes like roasted turkey, roasted pork, stuffed tomatoes, mince pies, Christmas’s bread and puddings. The main dish may be a suckling pig or a roasted peacock.

Do you want to spend Christmas in Argentina? Come and see this beauty.

We wish you a Merry Christmas from Argentina & Buenos Aires Gay Travel staff!

Learn the “gay words” in spanish

by Cristian on Dec.14, 2009, under Gay Travel Argentina

If you really want to get fun in Argentina you should learn a few words to speak to argentinian men. First when you arrive to the disco you will need a beer just to get out your accent and change your mother taught to spanish. Now when you buy a beer you have to say:

beer

A beer in Argentina nightlife is like 'nectar'.

-“Dame una cerveza, por favor” (=Give me a beer please)
-“¿Cuánto es?” (=how much is it?)
-“Gracias” (=thanks).

Remember: exchange cash (dollars to pesos, argentinian money) in a “casa de cambio” (=exchange house) before you go to a disco. It is safe to you to take enought money in your wallet to buy everything you want but don’t carry credit cards in case you lost it when you get drunk and have wild sex :P

At the moment you want to make a guy fall in love with you drink another beer but this time buy two :) in case you want to invite him a drink.

-“Hola, mi nombre es xxx” (Hi, my name is xxx)
-“Sos muy lindo” (You are too cute)
-“¿Quieres una cerveza?” (Do you want a beer?)

Visit the Calafate in Patagonia Argentina

by Cristian on Aug.06, 2009, under Gay Travel Argentina, Gay vacations, gay patagonia

Perito Moreno

The Perito Moreno Glacier

One of the most interesting glaciers of the world is The Perito Moreno in Argentina. This famous glacier is located in a small town called El Calafate in the southwest of Santa Cruz Province (Patagonia).

Its name comes from a little bush with yellow flowers very common in Patagonia, with dark blue berries: the “calafate”. According to tradition, whoever eats calafate will return for more.

El Calafate is an important tourist destination as the hub to visit different parts of the Los Glaciares National Park, including the Perito Moreno Glacier (one of the most visited in the world) and the Cerro Chaltén and Cerro Torre.

upsala

The Upsala Glacier

El Calafate presents a dry climate, with an average maximum temperature of 19ºC, and an average minimum of -2º in winter. The length of the day changes according to season. In summer, the sun rises at 5.30am and sets at 11pm. In winter the day is shorter as there are only 8 hours of daylight.

If you take a trip to Calafate you could spend a gorgelous vacation doing a lot of thing as well as ice trakking (walking on this impressive ice mass), or sailing around the glacier walls.

Also we recomended you to visit the Speghazzini and the Upsala glaciers.

At El Calafate you will find yourself at the gateway to the majestic world of glaciers. Come to Argentina and enjoy El Calafate and the Perito Moreno glacier!

Tango Gay Experience

by argentina gay on Jun.10, 2009, under Gay Travel Argentina

Tango at Buenos Aires

Tango at Buenos Aires

Tango is a music genre from Argentina. It’s associated with a dance form and a whole culture.

Early tango was known as tango criollo. Today, there are many tango dance styles, including Argentine Tango, Uruguayan Tango, Ballroom tango (in performing shows), Finnish tango and vintage tangos. What many consider to be the authentic tango is that closest to that originally danced in Argentina.

Tango originated in lower-class districts of Buenos Aires around eighteen century. The music derived from the fusion of various forms of music from Europe . The word Tango seems to have first been used in connection with the dance in the 1890s. Initially it was just one of the many dances, but it soon became popular throughout society, as theatres and street barrel organs spread it from the suburbs to the working-class slums, which were packed with hundreds of thousands of European immigrants, primarily Italians, Spanish and French.

Tango is quite a sensual dance, bodies are permanently in touch. Recently, a gay Tango is being developed at Buenos Aires. Gay milongas (places where dance Tango) are spread all over Buenos Aires.

If you dare to try this dance, BAGayTravel, a gay travel agency at Buenos Aires, offers a nice package around this experience. It includes 6 nights accommodation, tango show, city and museums tour & gay nightlife tour. Don’t miss the Buenos Aires Gay Tango Experience!
